How has social class been represented in this sequence ? Young kids Cigarette/alcohol Accent, speaking improperly Pub “Shameless” Literally chases money “make ends meet” The social class system was put in place to rank people according to their wealth, causing tension between the groups. Many people who are placed in lower groups may feel inferior to the higher ranking classes and therefore may feel some anger  towards them. There is a stereotype that lower class people are poor, unhygienic and not hard working, this idea is played into for comedic effects in the media. The  tv show ‘Shameless’ distributed a new advert that highlights on the way lower class men feel towards the upper class. It is set in a dark, dull looking atmosphere, implying on the tone of he lower classes lives which is stereotyped to be dull. In this scene we see that Effy slowly corrupts Panda into dressing provocatively and paying for drugs. This is a stereotype of teenagers being 'trouble' as they are into drugs and alcohol, Effy is seen as a bad influence on Panda as she was unaware of where they were going and what they were doing. In Degrassi next class, these students are seen as 'nerds' or gamers, this is another stereotype that is used to present teenagers as lazy as they traded team sports for competitive gaming. Video games are often associated with violence and this gives the teenagers who play them a bad representation.

Old people are often presented as being confused, Karen picks on the fact that granddad has dementia as a way to show old age comedically. Tv shows will show old people in a comedic light in order to take away from how serious some of their conditions and mental stability can be.  In miranda she finds herself looking after her mother, she struggles to use technology and becomes scared of loud sounds, this portrays older people as less socially advanced than their children to create comedy and make us feel sympathy for her.  In harry potter, Dumbledore is seen as wise due to his age. His old age makes him appear experienced and intelligent to the young students and they admire his wisdom. 

In the media, men are often shown in dark, cool colours. This could be to emphasise on the way they are expected to cold hearted or emotionless. We see in this example that the men are shirtless showing they are muscular, this could be to bring in a female audience as they think it is desirable. They use this idea in order to show them as a sexual object. On this issue of means health magazine, the reader is immediately drawn to the male model on the cover, his athletic physique may leave viewers admirable to look this way, leading to sales on the magazine as the cover is incising. The cover lines surrounding the man are intriguing as they offer quick fixes such as 'shred 2k in 2 weeks' this will lead readers to be ambitious and willing to read the magazine in order to resemble this mans body.   

In Melanie Martinez's musical film K-12 she addresses issues regarding the way that women are taught to view their body. In the song 'Strawberry shortcake' she says "boys act like they haven't seen skin before" talking about the way that women have to cover their body in order to be treated like a person and not an object. She uses visuals like dressing as a cake to symbolise how she feels objectified by men.    In this shot the boys eat the cake she is wearing, representing the way that boys are stereotyped to be greedy and 'perverted' when it comes to women. In the film all of the boys wear blue trousers and the girls wear pink dresses, this is a dominant ideology that colours and clothes have genders. In the film 'bed teacher' the main actress is shot using the 'male gaze'; we as the audience see her in the way that a man would find her most desirable.
